Blogging will likely be pretty sparse until next weekend, as I am working both jobs full-time this week (regular shifts at The Ritzier and training shifts at The New Job) and studying for my Big Terrifying Exam next Saturday. If I pass that then I will be a full-fledged employee at the new place. YAY! Failure is not an option.
I've gotten a couple of e-mails asking about Hotter's Transplant appointment. It was...I dunno, it just WAS. I wasn't there (I had to drop him off way early on my way to training and pick him up afterward), his weight is way down (shocker), they did a CT scan of some things along with the usual labs, and we haven't heard a damned thing about any of that. I have been asking Hotter to call and follow up and ask what the results of the tests were, but he pretty much refuses on the grounds that navigating their phone system is frustrating, and since I haven't had the time to play Mommy and call on his behalf I'm going to have to assume they found nothing that they need to act on (usually they call if his labs are wonky and I like to think that if they saw, say, a TUMAH on the CT scan they'd speak up about that as well). Big Child deserves some recognition for the fact that he babysat the littles during both Hotter's and my absence and kept everyone alive and happy (he is now old enough to do that per local laws; I wasn't thrilled with leaving him in charge for so long because I still feel like he's a really young thirteen in a lot of ways but The XY refused to take the children so it was a day of everyone doing what they had to do around here).
The Ritzier has continued to go downhill; upper management has been doing some really effed-up things to middle management, making them cranky, which in turn means that line-level employees are more disgruntled than usual. Drunk Boss's position was finally filled, and initially I thought people were overreacting when they said the new guy made Drunk Boss look good, but then yesterday I met the new guy, and...wow. I don't even know where to START! He appears to possibly have Tourette's, which a lot of line-level employees are spouting off about but isn't something I would be comfortable criticizing, for obvious reasons (although it does mean he is unable to help on a hands-on basis due to being unable to hold onto things like glasses, trays, etc. without flinging stuff). Aside from that he has incredibly poor social skills, doesn't seem to understand personal space (HE'S A CLOSETALKER OH HELL NAW), and then there's the fact that HE PATTED ME ON THE ASS. I...well geez, there is a lot going on and I'm not exactly feeling VIOLATED or anything...I'm not really sure what to make of the encounter, honestly. He was standing behind me at the time so I didn't see him move in; it SEEMED to be deliberate based on context clues (he was saying "Seeya later everybody, nice meeting you MFA Mama" and then PAT!) but the guy definitely has some motor-control issues so MAYBE it was accidental (although I think most of us would be like "oh whoops sorry!" if we accidentally touched someone's ass at work and there was nothing like that afterward)? The middle manager who was standing next to me when it happened asked me how I wanted to handle things when I was like "dude he just patted my ass" and I said I was willing to call it an accident THIS time, but if it happened again he was going to be shoving his cocaine up his butt while his nose heals (yeah, he's also pretty obviously a cokehead, but it's kind of the least of his problems). After which she slapped me on the arm and then laughingly apologized, and I was all "don't feel bad, inappropriately touching me seems to be The Done Thing today, anybody else wanna get in on this?"
My original goal was to hang in there at The Ritzier until long about Thanksgiving and build up a little cushion for when the MFA Minivan or my front tooth goes, but I don't know that I'll last that long.
Other than that, I am a flashcard-making FOOL over here and will be trudging around in an overcaffeinated fugue state mumbling lists of allergens and garnishes for the next week.
How are all of YOU?
P.S. I tried rare Ahi and LIKED it...I don't know what this world is coming to. I definitely wouldn't order it, but it was at work and I always feel rude if something is GF and I don't at least taste it, so I guess my horizons have been broadened.
