The XY has held off on paying the child support juuuust long enough that I lost my damn health insurance. My premium was due 6/1 and I went online on 5/31 to pay it and it showed my policy as canceled. But it was a weekend, so I called Anthem on Monday and was like "hi please take my money" and they were like "sure but you still won't have health insurance. We want you to pay for two months at once and THEN you can pay up front for your first month of this shitty NEW plan we're force-migrating you to because the ACA, with which you won't be able to afford healthcare but you'll be good with the law!" I was like "okay how much will that cost? I can't afford three months' premiums at once! If I deposit my paycheck I can do two, but..." And they were like "dunno you have to call this other number and ask THEM. Go ahead and do that if you need to then call us back and give us all your money." So I called the other number and got the details, but they couldn't take my money until I paid the people at the OTHER number, who by that time were closed.
Today when I called back they were "oh, nope! Yesterday was the last day you could do that. Now you're uninsured and you owe Urgent Care $600 because we're backdating the cancellation!" The girl I talked to today was at least nice, and said she'd ask a manager if they could make an exception. But I didn't hear back from her so I'm guessing they said no, or else maybe Anthem realized they had an employee who wasn't evil to the fucking core and fired her.
For all that I believe in the goodness of the ACA, from where I sit today it's hard not to hate it; before the ACA I had good, affordable coverage, and now the best that I as an individual can get is shitty, expensive coverage. The "Gold" ACA plans aren't even AVAILABLE where I live, FFS!
So it looks like I'll be buying Pristiq out of pocket and holding out for my employer's plan, which I can get on after 60 days. And if I get doctor-sick or lose my job for any reason in the meantime I'm just screwed. Plus there's the whole thing where the XY didn't pay the child support, and WTF?
The irony of it all? After spending a ruined day off dealing with Anthem yesterday I had some red wine for the first time in AGES to try and soothe my feelings and had some kind of bad reaction to it involving a headache so crushingly goddamn awful that I absolutely would have gone to the ER for it...except I was uninsured. So instead I stayed up all night whimpering and drinking water to try and flush things out, and then worked a double today and didn't even make decent money.
Damn you, Anthem!
