I got up bright and early to the coughing of a sick Middle Child, had Hotter call the XY about getting Middly to a doctor, and headed out to the mechanic for that $600 repair.
On the way there, the battery light came on. I arrived at MFA Mechanic's shop and left the van running. MFA Mechanic greeted me with raised eyebrows. "Battery light came on on the way here," I said grimly. "Could be no big deal! Maybe she's just excited to see me," he said placatingly.
"Yeah but it's ME. This is catastrophic electrical failure and you know it." He sighed. "Yeah, prolly."
Sure enough, it was the alternator.
And then the PCV valve crumbled off in the mechanic's hand when he went to remove it.
You might think that after being here so many times I'd be less panicky about only having $3 left to get five people to the first of the month, but you'd be wrong.
