I didn't want to say anything about it, lest it send Stalky into eleventh-hour overdrive, but yesterday marked the end of my 90-day new-employee probation, during which one wrong move (or barrage of phone calls and written manifestos from a certain innernet wingnut we all know and loathe*) could cost me my job. What That Means is that as of today I have something like three documented-in-writing wrong moves at my disposal, and Hotter and I have private medical, dental, and vision insurance (I also have life and disability coverage for myself). I have now proven myself, despite surgery and family emergency, through poverty and personal crisis, contrary to mutterings from under slimy rocks in dark corners of the bowels of the innernet, to be a competent and reliable worker, a contributing member of society. I won't be so unrealistic as to say that all of our problems are solved, but it is a tremendous relief to have reliable income from work I do well and enjoy, and know that the Medicare Gap won't torpedo our tremulous little economy in a few months' time.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have today off and Little Child and I are processing the first mature pumpkin from his vine!
* speaking of Stalky, I thought of her yesterday when someone tweeted that old saw about the opposite of love being not hate but indifference. I guess the fact that S is still out there posting my kids' names and contact info, yawping about ME bullying HER (!?!?!), and sending me traffic from ugly places means she still carries a torch after all these years? Confidential to Stalky: it's entirely one-sided and surpassed "sad" a few years ago. Seek help!

Insurance is a good thing! And a job you enjoy is wonderful. Congrats on surviving a tough 3 months. There is light at the end of the tunnel, and it is NOT a train.
