Lots of you have asked, via various social media, so here is the non-update on Isis: doggy pathology takes "a couple of days" (this per the supremely unconcerned veterinary receptionist I spoke with today). So I guess MAYBE tomorrow we'll know something? The patient is in good spirits; we played a game of tire tug-o-war earlier today and she seems to be enjoying getting held like a baby twice a day while we apply the hot compresses to her lumps.
I meanwhile am bleeding freely from my sinuses and GI tract (I know: whaaaat? I think this is just a combination of "took forbidden NSAIDs recently" and "all my body's bullshit gets worse under stress" and also "infections irritate sinuses" and "opiates irritate the GI tract") and feeling really tired and beat-down. I'm trying to convince myself that those two things are unrelated (fuck no I am not going to a doctor; labs come out of my deductible and I do not have the time, money, or driver for any -oscopies right now) (that said, my gums are not pale, my resting pulse is a respectable 82 bpm, and it is not an OBSCENE amount of blood so, you know, NOT DYING). I'm concerned, but not WORRIED.
Also, uh, does anyone know the signs and symptoms of a hernia in a six-year-old? A...friend wants to know.
The observant among you will note that I changed the Tip Jar icon on the right sidebar to a Donate button. This is because a couple of people asked why I didn't have a way for people to chip in and help out with the current financial clusterfuck; apparently the Tip Jar is not terribly obvious. I was hesitant to do this because TROLLS but also did not want anyone who wanted to help to not feel like they could, because I am totally drowning and willing to grab any lifeline at this point. I had saved almost half the cost of Hotter's upcoming dental work (three weeks from now, OHMYGOD), but spent all of it yesterday at the vet. If you feel like that was stupid of me, you are entitled to have that opinion and part of me even agrees with you. But, as a wise friend on the Twitter pointed out, if human beings always made rational decisions we would not be human. Also, if the tables were turned, my dog would do whatever it took to save MY life (judging by how courageously she protected me from her own reflection in a window the other day, bless her poor unselfconscious little heart). So.

Oh it is a good thing she was there, I hear those reflections can be very dangerous ;)
Seriously though, take everything you can get, that is one of the amazing things about this blogging community, we are here to help out when needed, if we can.
Also, feel better soon! We can't have our Mama getting sick(er) on us!

Anyone who criticizes this decision has never truly loved an animal or had kids who loved said animal.

From the nursey person: unless you're getting coffee grounds type blood, it shouldn't be that big a deal unless it like doesn't stop. Getting small amounts of bright red blood just means something is irritated and unhappy.
It might be a good idea to get checked out eventually, but you aren't going to drop dead this minute.
